60: Pebble Stationery and Tomoe River Paper

Pebble Stationery make affordably priced notebooks with Tomoe River paper. This paper is particularly well suited to drawing and painting with inks. Especially fountain pen inks, because it shows off their full sheening and shading potentials.

Kim talks to co-founder Lois Ho about creating a stationery brand from scratch via Kickstarter, their matching pencils, and charity work.

Tomoe River paper is also used in the Hobonichi diaries/journals. Many people use them for combined art and bullet journalling because the paper handles inks well, many different pens, and even light watercolour.

However, it is very thin paper. There is a lot of show-through, and the paper will go wavy when wet. Fans of the ultra-thin 52 gsm paper like it for its crinkly feel.

Future Art Supply Posse guest Candace Milner uses Tomoe River paper for her pattern drawings.
