Art Supply Posse is starting a new series where anyone can talk about their favourite or unused art supplies. Please contact us if you would like to be on the podcast and talk about your own favourites or unpack supplies that have been lingering unused on a shelf.
Alan Trautman is the first person to step forward and to go through his old toolbox containing mainly unused art supplies. Alan rummages through his old tool box containing unused art supplies. He discusses those supplies and the kind of art he makes.

Sara Schroeder talks about creating abstract art, teaching art, and her “Old Book Revival Project” which encourages people to create artwork in old books that are no longer being read.
Although abstract, you will recognise elements of the Art Deco style typical to Miami, where Sara lives.
Sara talks about getting over your fears of creating art by not taking it too seriously in the beginning and just making marks.

Nick Stewart returns to discuss his course on using fountain pen ink as a unique art medium. Nick’s project pushes the boundaries in which fountain pen ink is used in art. Away from a pure sketching ink, to an art medium akin to paint, with unique properties such as shading, sheening and reaction to bleach.
Nick first talked about this project on episode 51 of Art Supply Posse. Since then, Nick has released a course on Udemy where he teaches his techniques for creating art using the unique properties of fountain pen inks and bleach.

Mokshini’s style is influenced by fashion illustration where she began her career. However, she frequently contradicts traditional fashion norms by painting women of all shapes and sizes in relatable, and often whimsical, every day situations.
Mokshini does everything from painting to fabric design and live drawing. She uses a wide range of media including watercolour and acrylics, but also has a penchant for gouache.
Her art is primarily analogue. It has a very painterly feel, visible in the heavy textures of the paper, canvas, and brushstrokes.

Enon Avital of Dapper Notes talks in detail about making things by hand, using his own unique pocket notebook business Dapper Notes as an example. This side business he runs is more than making paper notebooks, it is a form of “process art” itself. To fully understand that, watch the Dapper Notes process videos and listen to Enon’s explanation in the episode.
Enon emphasises how important the process is when we make things. It’s not sustainable to be feeding social media algorithms through likes and follower counts. It’s only when you can enjoy the process of making things that you can continue over time.
